Sam Poh Tong is a Buddhist temple in a limestone cave. To the south, Kellie’s Castle is an unfinished mansion built by a Scottish planter. Southeast, the vast Gua Tempurung cave has dramatic rock formations. The colonial importance of the city still shines greatly via its grand old buildings like the town hall and the railway station that complement the shop house rows. Ipoh is famous for Malaysian hawker dishes. The Birch Memorial Clocktower for example is a dedication to the city’s first ever British Resident Minister in Perak.
